The Ecological School of La Pacha
Creating a territory for learning how to live, land for us to return to our roots
The Ecoaldea Escuela La Pacha (Eco-village School) is our organization’s long-term vision.
More than an infrastructure project, it represents the building of a living territory where education, community, ecological regeneration, research, and wellbeing come together in a single experience.
We imagine a place where future generations can grow up developing the capacities to sustain life, live in harmony with nature, and build societies that are more resilient, just, and conscious. A place where learning and living are part of the same process.
Why an Eco-village School?
We live in a time when much of the knowledge fundamental to life is disappearing. Fewer and fewer people know how to produce their own food, save seeds, build with local materials, manage water, meet basic needs collaboratively, or take an active part in community life.
At the same time, we face environmental, social, and economic challenges that call for new ways of organizing and learning.
The Eco-village School is a practical response. A place where people don’t just study solutions, but live them, experience them, and put them into practice. A space where education happens in contact with the land, the forests, the water, the community, and the real processes of everyday life.
Our vision for 2040
We imagine a regenerated territory of between 300 and 500 hectares of land that’s protected and cared for.
A territory where native forests live alongside agroforestry systems, conservation areas, learning spaces, and human communities that work with the natural cycles rather than against them.
We picture a place where:
- The forests keep expanding
- Water sources are protected
- Biodiversity increases year after year
- Food is produced regeneratively
- Education happens across the whole territory
- People learn through experience
- Community grows stronger through cooperation
A place where life flourishes.
The territory
The Eco-village School will take shape in a territory rich in the natural elements essential to life. We’re looking for land with:
- Native forests
- Permanent water sources
- Streams or rivers
- High biodiversity
- Potential for ecological regeneration
- Conditions suited to education and community life
Our priority isn’t simply to acquire land. It’s to protect territories capable of sustaining life for many generations. Each hectare conserved is an investment in the future.
A forest that teaches
We believe nature is one of the greatest teachers there is. So much of the educational experience will unfold directly in contact with the land.
The trails will be spaces for learning. The gardens will be living laboratories. The forests will be classrooms. The agroforestry systems will reveal how ecosystems work. The water sources will teach the importance of protecting what sustains all life.
Here, education won’t be separate from the real world. It will be part of it.
The spaces of the Eco-village School
The vision unfolds gradually, through different spaces for education, research, regenerative production, and community life.
- Education
Forest School, learning halls, library, seed laboratory, research laboratory, and spaces for training facilitators. - Regenerative production: Gardens, food forests, agroforestry systems, greenhouses, a seed bank, and areas for animals.
- Trades & appropriate technology: Carpentry workshop, ceramics workshop, fiber and textile workshop, natural-building spaces, and ecotechnology laboratories.
- Community: Community house, community kitchen, community dining hall, spaces for volunteers, researcher residences, and a central plaza.
- Wellbeing & culture: Medicinal gardens, interpretive trails, spaces for contemplation, an open-air amphitheater, temazcal, and ceremonial spaces.
Each of these will have an educational and demonstrative purpose. They will be tools for learning and development.
A community that learns
The Eco-village School will also be a community experience.
We imagine a diverse community of families, educators, farmers, artisans, researchers, facilitators, and volunteers. People united by the desire to contribute to a more conscious, collaborative, and regenerative way of life.
Living together will build capacities rarely learned in conventional education: communication, cooperation, conflict resolution, collective organization, resource management, and mutual care. Because learning to live together is one of the great challenges of our time.
Research for the future
The Eco-village School will also function as a living laboratory of social and ecological innovation.
We’ll support research into Living Education, soil regeneration, agroforestry, ancestral medicine, community development, regenerative economy, natural building, and ecological technologies.
Our aim is to generate useful, applicable knowledge that can be shared with other organizations, communities, and institutions.
A model to replicate
La Pacha’s vision doesn’t end with a single territory. Our purpose is to build a demonstrative model capable of inspiring new initiatives elsewhere.
We hope the experience we gather can be adapted and replicated by people, organizations, and communities wanting to start similar processes. The foundations of that replication will be Living Education, territorial regeneration, community life, and permaculture design.
In this way, each successful experience can become a seed for new ones.
The legacy we want to leave
One question guides this entire project:
What legacy do we want to leave for future generations?
Our answer is simple. We want our children and those who come after to find a world with more life than the one we received.
More forests. More clean water. More biodiversity. More living knowledge. More community. More room to grow fully as human beings.
We want future generations to have time to explore, create, learn, and discover who they truly are. And we believe that to make that possible, we have to begin today.
The Ecoaldea Escuela La Pacha is a vision in the making.
